Can you introduce yourself?
Hi, I’m Meghan. I’m a US expat, originally from Florida, living here in Prague. I’m an online English teacher and travel consultant.
What are you working on?
My company is called UnearthAway. We design custom itineraries for travellers in cities around Europe and South America. My day ranges from Skype-ing with clients in the US, researching and designing city guides, and managing our social media pages, to filming travel videos for our YouTube channel (coming soon!).
What drives your passion for unearthaway.com? Why did you start it?
I moved abroad because I’ve always had a passion for travel and exploring other cultures. I lived in Germany as a child and have chased after that sort of adventure ever since. While most twelve-year-olds were saving up for their first iPad mini, I was saving for my first trip to Central America. I’ve spent most of my life travelling any chance I’ve had – which has led me to 42 countries and 5 continents…so far 🙂 My goal is 50 before the age of 30. I get the greatest thrill from exploring the intricacies of a new city, meeting the people, and sampling new cuisines. After planning budget backpacking trips of my own for years, I decided to launch my own travel planning service to see what I could make of it.
What are the main challenges you’re facing? Is there anything any of our members could help you with? (Can be unpaid help of course)
My main challenge is managing the different aspects of the business that are so new to me. I started UnearthAway because I wanted to share my love of travel and enjoyed the design side of the project. Since then, I’ve been learning all about marketing and social media, which I can safely say, are not my favourite areas to work on. I’d definitely be interested in speaking with anyone who enjoys Instagram, marketing, or even content creation. Of course, they should share an interest in travel.
Does Locco help you make progress on your project? What do you like about it?
Locco is my ideal workspace! After teaching all morning from my kitchen, I’m happy for the change of scenery with such a productive atmosphere. And, of course, the chairs are the best you’ll find 🙂
